Quad, Derby

'This exhibition marked the climax of a nine month project in which fourteen older members of the Derby community researched and discussed contemporary art, many for the first time, and selected a stunning art exhibition from the Arts Council Collection. The exhibition was officially opened by distinguished broadcaster, writer and advocate of Older People; Dame Joan Bakewell.'
The works chosen dated from 1929 to 2003 and included sculpture and painting by artists including:
John Bratby
Edward Burra
Patrick Caulfield
Anya Gallaccio
Charles Ginner
Duncan Grant
Siobhan Hapaska
David Hockney
Shirazeh Houshiary
Ken Kiff
Joanna Kirk
Peter Lanyon
L.S Lowry
William Nicholson
Winifred Nicholson
Grayson Perry
Bryan Wynter

While I was in town on Saturday (15th Jan), I decided to go have a look at what was on display at Quad. When I got inside, I noticed that an exhibition called 'Objects of Delight' was on and that it was one of the last days to go and see it! Let me tell you, I was absolutely 'delighted' by what was on display.
This piece of work in particular really caught my eye, it is called 'Colour Construction, 1960' by Peter Lanyon.
It immediately made me think about Space and the Future because of the beautiful mixture of colours as well as the unusual form of the piece itself. Really inspiring!
I will be definitely be thinking about this piece when it comes to drawing up designs for my final piece.
